The MoneyTree report prepared by PwC and CB Insights is a quarterly publication that tracks the latest trends and data in VC funding. While the report is quite US-centric, there are plenty of interesting insights and data from other regions. The US accounted for 47% of the global pie in Q1 while Europe, pitching in at $4.8bn, accounted for only a 10% share and underlines how the industry is still a while away from maturity on this side of the pond. Closer to home, the Irish Venture Capital Association (IVCA) released its own data on funding in Ireland for the corresponding period with a total of €332m ($388m) raised in Q1 and shows Ireland as an increasingly important centre in a European context. VC funding is now running in excess of €1bn on a twelve month basis. While the Q1 number represented a 34% increase on the corresponding period, the devil is in the detail with 3 companies representing 73% of funding for later stage investments. We continue to see an interesting early-stage opportunities in Ireland.
